Working a Parade

As an animal rights advocate, I would usually be engaged in a number of projects and events aimed to ensuring the protection and rights of animals. I have always been a lover of these creatures ever since I was a little girl. In our home, we have a lot of domesticated animals which we took care of. This is the reason why I have grown accustomed to having these creatures around and loving them. Up to this day, my parents still keep a few animals as a way of therapy.

For last month’s activity, we were tasked to come up with a pet parade in our community. It was a perfect way to raise some funds and to invite a few speakers for the show. The owners who volunteered would dress up their pets in unique and wonderful dog costumes as we parade around the town hall. It was well received by many, and the participants were quite a number. I was happy to announce that we were able to raise funds beyond our expected targets.

Differing Takes on Dog Clothes

A Daily Mail reporter has written an article titled “Dog Owners who Dress Up their Pets Could Face Prosecution”. It sounded funny on first look but it turned out to be a serious article about the RSPCA threatening legal action against dog owners who ‘over-dress’ their pets. The RSPCA is the leading UK animal welfare charity. The article continues to claim that putting on stylish dog clothes, boots and hoodies can be harmful to the animals. Since they put the pet’s welfare at risk, they should be prosecuted.

This makes me wonder what designers and retailers of dog clothes have to say about this. From their point of view, pet clothes actually make the dog more comfortable by providing warmth when they need it. I wonder if pet clothes can make pets feel better emotionally. Does it make a difference to her if she wears a ballerina tutu or an honest to goodness dog sweater? Let us face it. Dressing up the pet is really for the satisfaction of the owner. I guess the answer is in observing moderation. Pet clothes should be chosen based on their comfort ability; avoid clothes that can be constricting and prickly.

Humans would go through great lengths just so they could look fashionably swell and presentable in front of other people. Sometimes, we would be going back and forth through our closets in trying to find the perfect outfit for every occasion. Of course, our looks say a lot about our personalities and our sense of style. We would want to not only appear smart and with some great character, but also great looks. Besides, one is usually judged first and foremost by the way she looks.

And why not apply the same for dogs? After all, we as owners must also look great whenever we have our pets in tow in public. Get them dressed in wonderful dog apparel and you can both get on out walking like divas! These things not only provide some comfortable garb and protective clothing especially on those days when the weather can get extremely cold. A lot of dogs cannot bear the cold weather especially when they go out of the comforts of your house. This is especially true for the toy dogs or the ones who are so tiny. They do not have enough fur or body mass to keep them warm. Thus, it can lead to various complications like sickness and ailments.

That’s why dog clothes have been developed. Some says that it’s only used to make dogs cute but I beg to defer. These clothes like dog hoodies and shirts do have lots of designs and colors that look adorable. But they also help dogs keep safe and warm whenever they go out during cold weather.

Think of clothing your dog as your particular way of pampering a pet. We don’t really know what dogs think about dog clothes. I guess just like people there are dogs that actually enjoy wearing them while others just put up with them. As dog owners, we use dog shirts to tell them that they are special. It is also a way for owners to show the world how they feel about their pet.

The dog shirts that we choose for our pets can vary from day to day and from one occasion to another. Dog shirts can carry a message such as one that describes the dog as the ‘best friend’ or a ‘running mate’. A dog can be attired in a sporty shirt such as a raglan-style striped tee with stitching in a contrasting color. Designer shirts and accessories perk up his dog ego. There is no limit to dog clothes choices. Enjoy them.
